Reflecting Deeply, Acting Boldly: our commitment to an anti-racist future
We as United Way of Lane County have historically seen ourselves as a neutral party— bringing all voices to the table, seeking to balance many differing perspectives, and collaborating to find solutions that fit all needs. In this process, it’s meant we have not been as strong of advocates for vulnerable populations as we should have been. It’s meant we have often upheld systems and inequities that negatively impact marginalized communities we believed we were serving.
We’re committing to doing better. And we need you to accompany us in this work.
These acknowledgements and commitments from our board and staff are not complete or all-encompassing. We are continuing to unpack how our past neutrality no longer serves us nor the communities we seek to serve—and we are actively changing how we do our work. More about how you can be part of this work will be shared in coming weeks and months.
For now, here’s how can join us:
Give today at unitedwaylane.org/donate to invest in our communities’ immediate needs and systemic solutions
Join our monthly eNewsletter for more stories and opportunities to get involved
Share this video, and other LIVE UNITED Week stories with your friends, family, and colleagues, and invite them to join us in this work, too
We need you. We need all of us to step up, get involved, and use our privilege, our passion, and our resources to face and fight the injustices in our communities. It will take every one of us, United, to make sure that each child and person of color experiences the same opportunities, education, safety, and security that our white neighbors do. Join us.
