A Statement on Affirmative Action
We are devastated to hear the Supreme Court’s ruling on Affirmative Action. This is a heavy blow to students of color and our entire country’s collective future.
Affirmative Action gave students of color an important pathway to higher education. It helped minimize the impact of institutional barriers keeping underrepresented students from accessing education, and it enriched educational experiences for students of every race/ethnicity. This decision not only denies access to opportunities for education but also fosters environments that further white supremacy. And now, the Supreme Court’s ruling against student loan forgiveness creates further barriers to opportunities for affect low- and middle-income borrowers, and disproportionately impacts people of color.
Our hearts are heavy knowing the pathway to success for students of color is now much narrower. Our work expanding opportunities for local children is more important than ever!
We hope you’ll join us in continuing to dedicate our time and resources to kids and families who have been denied access to opportunities because of aspects of their identity – whether their race, income, geography, gender identity, physical ability, or other identity. We feel hopeful, knowing that when we focus resources for these communities, it has the greatest chance to benefit us all.
